About HKAPA
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), a leading tertiary institution in the performing arts in Asia, proudly celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2024. Over the years, the HKAPA has been providing professional undergraduate education and practice-based postgraduate studies by its six Schools: Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. The Academy aims to nurture a new generation of performing artists and cultural leaders with a global impact, firmly rooted in Hong Kong’s rich East-West cultural heritage, and advocates for industry engagement, innovation, interdisciplinarity, internationalisation and practice-as-research.
Besides the award-winning main campus in Wanchai, the Béthanie, the site of the Academy’s Landmark Heritage Campus in Pokfulam, has housed educational facilities for the School of Film and Television since 2006.
The Academy works closely with leading performing arts groups and higher education institutions in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas to promote innovation and advancement in performing arts education. Over the past 40 years, the Academy's students, graduates, faculty members and the Academy itself have won numerous awards, producing nearly 11,000 graduates who have become the backbone of cultural development in Hong Kong and beyond.
The Academy has attained the Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status awarded by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ), and was commended in 2021 for its outstanding track records in delivering quality accredited programmes with sufficient quality assurance competency at organisational and programme area levels. Since 2019, HKAPA has been ranked by the QS University Rankings for Performing Arts Subject as No. 1 in Asia for six consecutive years.
We at HKAPA look forward to working with all sectors of the community to nurture a new generation of performing artists and cultural leaders rooted in Hong Kong's rich East-West cultural heritage, contribute to Hong Kong’s development into an East-West Centre for Cultural Exchange, and reach new heights in the new decade to come.

Community Engagement
The Academy aims to contribute to the community by bringing Art into the heart of society. We do this in many ways, from community arts projects for ethnic minorities, disabled people, the disadvantaged, the young or the elderly to outreach projects that promote performing arts forms to the public.
Such projects explore the indigenous culture of the local communities and regenerate their social values and identity through the arts. They are also offered to schools and community centres that attract the younger generations, thereby providing avenues for sustainable development of the performing arts in Hong Kong. Dynamic institutes such as the Academy should evolve with the needs of the community and its industries. We do so through our programmes, infrastructures, delivery methods, and technologies that reflect these changing community needs and demands.
