Biography
May Au was among the first cohort of students to graduate from the HKAPA with a degree in stage management. Before returning to her alma mater to teach, she acquired many years of extensive professional technical and management experience in events and productions. With years of freelance experiences in stage management, event management and venue management, she was also engaged full-time five years at the Hong Kong Dance Company as the deputy stage manager, and at the Hong Kong Disneyland one year as the stage manager and four years as the technical manager.
May’s deep professional expertise and her keen knowledge of all programmes of the department, including the BFA and MFA, have enabled her to enlighten students both theoretically and practically, all while keeping pace with the performing arts sector that has been evolving significantly over the years.
She holds an MA in Communication from the Hong Kong Baptist University, and a PGDip in Creative Events Management from the Falmouth University, a leading university for the creative industries in the UK.
May maintains a close connection with the theatre and entertainment industry. She is an active full member of the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association; life member of the Hong Kong Association of Theatre Technicians and Scenographers; global member of the International Society for the Performing Arts, United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and Sustainability in Production Alliance.
