Biography
Brian Watkins is a Lecturer in Scenic Art. He has over 10 years of experience painting and creating scenery in the theatre and film industry.
Brian’s scenic career started in Cardiff with a company called Cardiff Theatrical Services, where he was part of a team creating stage scenery for productions at venues, such as Wales Millennium Centre, Glyndebourne, Royal Opera House (ROH)and New York Metropolitan Opera. More recently, Brian has been working as a scenic artist for the ROH in London.
He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art, Painting from the University of Gloucestershire. He has exhibited paintings at exhibitions both in the UK and in mainland Europe.
During his career thus far, Brian has had the privilege to work on many productions showcasing work in traditional scenic art methods, as well as using more modern techniques.
Some of the productions Brian has worked on that he holds great fondness for are The Nose (NY Met) , Swan Lake (ROH), Frankenstein (ROH), Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg (Glyndebourne) and Doctor Who (Doctor Who Experience)and working with some fantastic designers in the process.
Brian is interested in artistic innovation, finding exciting new uses for pre-existing products, cross-discipline collaboration, and developing new techniques based on traditional methods.
