Cantonese Opera Youth Programme 2025/26

ABOUT THE PROGRAMMES
COYP aims to cultivate teenagers' interest in Cantonese opera through systematic education and training, enhancing their appreciation of traditional performing arts. Specifically designed for youths aged 9 to 17, the curriculum covers foundation work, weapon skills, acrobatic skills, performance technique, stage movement, vocal training, and basic percussion. It also integrates drama and body movement, film and martial arts training, and stage skills, providing interdisciplinary opportunities for diverse development.
Practical Opportunities
Students will have the chance to participate in various performances and activities, including the Open Day of the HKAPA, Annual Student Achievement Showcase, appreciation of the School of Chinese Opera’s production "Gongs and Drums," and the "Cantonese Opera Day" organized by the LCSD.
Artistic Development
COYP will lay a solid foundation in Cantonese opera for students. Upon completion, some students have successfully gained admission to full-time programs at the School of Chinese Opera, while others have continued to develop their careers in the field of Cantonese opera performance, embarking on their artistic journeys.
COYP Teaching Team
The teaching team consists of full-time faculty of the School of Chinese Opera, experienced instructors from the Cantonese opera industry and graduates of the School of Chinese Opera.
Entry Requirements
Open to teenagers aged 9 to 17 with an interest in traditional Cantonese opera performing arts.
Schedule
From September 2025 to July 2026.
Every Saturday from 09:00 to 13:00.
Fees
HKD 9,350 per year
Audition
Applicants are required to attend an interview. Interview will be held from 1st to 2nd August, with specific times to be notified via email.
