Project Summary
The “Unlocking Potentials” workshop series was designed for students with physical disabilities in Hong Kong special schools. It was led by team members from Independent Studies Programme of EDuIT and supervised by technology experts from the department. The primary objective of these workshops was to provide students with hands-on experiences in AI-related activities, including 3D avatar creation, motion capture, and generative AI of music.
The team visited two special schools, namely The Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre and SAHK Ko Fook Iu Memorial School, where they conducted workshops for three classes. One class consisted of primary school students, while the other two classes comprised secondary school students. During the workshops, Anson and Emily Huang, a guest dance instructor who is a dance student at HKAPA, taught students with physical disabilities upper body dance movements. Through the utilization of AI technology, the students’ motions were integrated with the instructors' demonstrations, creating a unique and inclusive dance experience.
The students also learnt 3D-modeling by creating avatars and combining them with videos of various dances and activities they cannot typically be able to participate in. In addition, the students also learnt how to generate songs using an AI tool. Through motion and music, this project provided disabled students with the opportunity to achieve things that they may have previously found challenging and inaccessible.
