Former Executive Committee member of the Society for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (from 2000 to 2010) and Academy Council member (from 2005 to 2010), David Pong Chun-yee graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Economics. He is currently Director of Shiu Wing Steel Limited and of Dim Sum TV.
As a collector of ink paintings, Mr Pong is Vice-Chairman of the Ink Society and is devoted to the promotion of cultural exchange between local and overseas visual arts. He is a Trustee of the Friends of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, a member of the Executive Committee of the Asian Cultural Council (Hong Kong Chapter), a member of the Museum Committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, and a Trustee of the Asia Art Museum of San Francisco.
Previously, Mr Pong served as a Board member of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Board member of the Hong Kong Ballet, a member of the Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions, a council member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and a Director of Asia Art Archive.
As a loyal and long-standing supporter of the Academy, Mr Pong has given unstinting support to Academy students and staff. He has provided student scholarships through his own charitable trust, Yiqingzhai Foundation, while sponsoring many fund-raising events of the Society for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Mr Pong combines his peerless passion for the arts, whether it be visual, performing or screen arts, with an extraordinary passion for student and staff welfare. His exemplary contribution to the Academy’s development is greatly appreciated by faculty and generations of students alike.
