HKAPA welcomes arts and cultural policies in 2023 Policy Address

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (the Academy) welcomes and fully supports the Chief Executive’s Policy Address especially on those related to performing arts and cultural developments including plans of establishing the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, launching the Signature Performing Arts Programme Scheme and allocating more resources to the film market and cultural exchanges. The Academy also strongly believes that strategies for Northern Metropolis will greatly benefit the long-term developments of arts, culture and higher education sectors of the local community, the Greater Bay Area and the region.

Professor Gillian Choa, Director of the Academy, is grateful to the government for its strong support and invaluable commitment, which enables the Academy to uphold its recognised global standing as a leading higher education institute for performing arts and foster the development of talented young artists in the region. By enriching the cultural landscape of the Hong Kong community, the Greater Bay Area, and the whole region, the Academy will continue to play a significant role in contributing to the vibrant positioning of Hong Kong as an international hub for arts and cultural exchange as well as creative industries.

Last month, the Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Training of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of The Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Department of Training) to promote educational exchange in arts and culture between Vietnam and the Academy.

Meanwhile, the Academy is also able to leverage the historical edge of Hong Kong where Eastern and Western cultures meet, to provide the younger generations with a diverse, cross-disciplinary learning environment and boost the cultivation of a new generation of young performing arts talents. The Academy will continue to strive for excellence in its innovative, multi-disciplinary and globally-focused education in performing arts.
