The Award of Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is presented to Ms Jean M Wong in recognition of her long-term contribution to the development of dance in Hong Kong.
In her Hong Kong Schools, for over forty years, and as an advocate of Hong Kong dance internationally, Jean Wong has devoted her life to the pursuit of excellence in dance. As a teacher of rare passion and dedication, she has raised generations of classically trained dancers, teachers and dance lovers. Due to her single-minded dedication to the art of the dance, Ms Wong is responsible for the elevation of the dance profession in Hong Kong.
She has tirelessly given of her time and energy to encourage this development, not only in her teaching, but also I her frequent voluntary services for the public sector, In this latter category she has selflessly lent her expertise as member of the boards of directors, councils and advisory committees to each of the three professional dance companies.
She has also been an active member of the Academy’s Dance School Advisory Committee, and advised the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Leisure and Cultural Services Department, among others.
Jean has a Bachelor of Philosophy from the University of Durham in the UK and is qualified as a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance and an Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Ms Wong has been an examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance since 1965 and was appointed the Asian Representative on the Executive Committee in 1998.
The Academy pays tribute to Jean M Wong for her distinguished service and outstanding achievements in the field of dance.
